Madness As Baudrillard’s Hyperreality
Of the Post-Apocalypse

In this article, we try to follow the traces of one of the most famous post modern concepts, namely hyperreal ity, within one of the most successful post-apocalyptic movies, the Mad Max: Fury Road. We aim to present how this concept of hyperreality is cin ematically used to deepen the sense of post-apocalypse through the madness of the character named Coma-Doof Warrior. He is the one who leads Im mortan Joe’s War Boys into battle, em boldening them with the sounds and sights of his flame-throwing guitar. But the Doof Warrior is much more than a crazed bugler. In fact, he is portrayed in such a way that he doesn’t live in the same reality as Immortan Joe and the War Boys. With this portrayal, he, as a hyperreality, helps to deepen and saturate the sense of the post-apoca lypse in the Fury Road. As chapters of the article, first, we explain the different meanings and contexts of hy perreality and we focus on its usage within postmodern thought, especial ly by Baudrillard. Secondly, we show the connections between perceptions of reality, hyperreality and apocalypse with a justified assumption on the im possibility of the concept of post-apoc alypse [...]
