Author Guidelines

Important: Sofist has recently updated its submission guidelines in accordance with international indexing requirements. All submissions are evaluated against the current standards listed below. Please review these guidelines carefully before submitting.

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be suitable for the journal will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as images, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the  argument of the paper is clearly structured and articulated. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of the manuscript being sent out for review. Once you have ensured that your submission meets these standards, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Sofist uses a double-blind peer review process for research articles, review articles, and translations. Book reviews and discussion papers are evaluated by the editors. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees. A third referee may be consulted in case of disagreement. Final decisions are made by the editors. The review process takes, on average, 6–8 weeks from submission to final decision.

All submissions must follow the journal's word limit (8,000 words, including references) and be written in Turkish or English. Submissions should use a consistent referencing style throughout. Manuscripts accepted for publication must conform to APA 7th edition style before the copyediting stage.

Manuscripts submitted for peer review must be fully anonymised (no names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or self-identifying references in the file).

Before starting your submission, please make sure that you have prepared:
– an anonymised manuscript file for peer review,
– a separate title page with author names, affiliations, ORCID info, and contact details,
– a similarity report
– Turkish and English titles, abstracts (150–250 words), and 4–7 keywords.
– format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
– font: 12 pt
– line spacing: 1.5

Keywords must follow the structure below:

[Subfield or area of philosophy], [Core concept], [Core concept], [Specific concept], [Optional author]

The first keyword should indicate the subfield or area of philosophy to which the manuscript belongs (e.g. Ethics, Logic, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Religion). “Philosophy” may also be used as the first keyword.

Subsequent keywords should consist of specific philosophical concepts directly relevant to the article.

If included, author names should appear at the end of the list and be given in their full form (e.g. not “I. Kant” or “Kant”,  but “Immanuel Kant”).

Use standardised terminology where possible.
Example 1: Ethics, Moral Responsibility, Free Will, Immanuel Kant
Example 2: Philosophy of Mind, Consciousness, Intentionality, Phenomenology, Edmund Husserl

Declarations

All submissions must include a “Declarations” section at the end of the manuscript. This section must be written in English, regardless of the language of the article, and must include the following elements where applicable: Author Contributions, Competing Interests, Ethics Statement, Funding, and Acknowledgements. Submissions that do not include a Declarations section will be returned to the authors for revision.

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system. Submissions sent via email are not considered. Each submission must include author information: name, affiliation, email, ORCID. Authors are strongly encouraged to create or connect their ORCID ID during registration. Please use our Submission Template for your submission.

- Written permission from the copyright holder must be provided.
