Abstract

Here, the introduction piece written  by the translator of the English trans lation of Martin Heidegger’s Gelassen heit,  dated  1959,  published  by Verlag  Günther Neske, is presented in Turkish.  To  mention  shorty,  Heidegger’s  work  consists  of  two  parts.  First  part  is  a  memorial address in honour of the Ger man composer Conradin Kreutzer. Hei degger delivered this speech to a gener al audience. Second part is a conversa tion where elements and theme stated  in the address are developed in a more  specialized and profound way. The dia logue was written from more extended  notes on a dialogue dating from 1944-45 between a teacher, a scientist, and a  scholar. English translation of the work  was first time published, under the title  Discourse  on  Thinking,  in  1966.  The  introduction piece in this translation is  important because of couple of reasons.  The first reason is that, since this work  is one of the most characteristic works  of Heidegger’s later era, the translator’s  introduction presents some critical de tails of Heidegger’s later thought. Sec ondly, this introduction is successful in  explaining the nuances in the work and  in this sense, it functions as a guidance  towards understanding what Heidegger  means  within  the  work.  Thirdly,  this  introduction, going beyond and above  the work, explicitly clarifies the simi larities and differences between Heide gger’s  early  and  later  thought.
