On İsmail Hüsrev Tökin’s Article Titled “Social Ideas in Ancient Greece”

This work discusses about İsmail Hüsrev Tökin’s article titled Eski Yunanistan’da İctimai Fikirler [Social Ideas in Ancient Greece] which was written for İctimaiyat Mecmuası [Sociology Journal]. He was one of the most important Marxist economists of Türkiye and of the founders of Kadro Journal. This article is important regarding overcoming the mainstream positivist perspective in Türkiye and examining the relationship between philosophers’ ideas and social classes. Accordingly, there are two aims of this work: First is to thoroughly consider the determinations of İsmail Hüsrev Tökin’s about social views in Ancient Greece through using historical materialism and dialectic method; Second is to present that article which was published in volume 1, issue 4 of “Felsefe ve İçtimaiyât Mecmuası” [Philosophy and Sociology Journal] through Latinization of that article from Ottoman Turkish. Aforementioned journal was a milestone within Turkish enlightenment history as it was one of the first philosophical journals of Republican period. Without a doubt, this second aim is quite important regarding illuminating the history of philosophy during early era of Republic.
