Abstract

English philosopher John Locke (1632-1704) is one of the iconic figures of the 17th century. His works, which cover a very wide area from knowledge theory to political theory, are still alive today. Despite the breadth of the topics he covers, a careful reading shows that these wide topics are fundamentally based on Locke’s knowledge theory. The last published main work by Locke, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, was in 1690. Therefore, it is the main work that includes the final version of his ideas. However, considering the fact that the essay has two previously published drafts, it is clear that Locke made various modifications to this work in the light of the issues he was interested in throughout his life. Also, the 1690 edition of the essay was published together with A Letter Concerning Toleration and Two Treatises of Government. The plot of the current article is also based on this plan.
